The last scene of dreams

: between reality and surreal

When I make all my works,'Imagination' is the essential word for me. And I always think of human body, the body, which is connected with my spirit. I have been inspired in surrealism which is about consciousness and unconsciousness and the boundary of reality and dreams. i want to express my identity through deformation, distortion and a hybrid body.

Distorting the beautiful image of human body is the most enjoyable part of my creating process. By creating a surreal form, paradoxically, I got myself more stability in my mind. Because our life, deep inside, is not just about our real life. Compounding nature and human body, the alteration of body from flesh to nature, they both are very attractive idea to me all the time.

All my inspiration came from the imagination of body. "What if my arms and legs can grow up somewhere like hair?" " When my tooth is sore, it may be a flower is growing inside of the tooth?"

People are never satisfied with their own body even though their bodies are basically same fleshes and blood. I think it is because of the greed and desire of human which are endless. But the freed, desire, and imperfection of body are the main sources of inspiration for my creation.

In this work, I thought more about the concept of time and wanted to include this idea.Time, that is the main feature, of how we can recognise reality.

As time goes by, the human body and nature are degenerated (human bone and dead flowers) and I wanted to create a space between reality and the surreal by presenting the deformation human body(long arm).

From my thought about the real and the surreal, I came to the ideas of the last scenes of each. The last tableau of the surreal is the last view we see in our dreams. Right before we wake up fro dreams, at that very moment between the worlds of consciousness and unconsciousness, is the stage we come back from the surreal world.

꿈의 마지막장면 : 현실과 초 현실 사이

모든 작품을 만들때 '상상력'은 나에게 가장 중요한 핵심 단어다.

리고 난 항상 나의 정신과 가장 많이 연결되어있는 몸, 육체, 에 대한 고민을 많이한다. 의식과 무의식, 그리고 현실과 꿈의 경계선에 대해 많은 영감은 초현실주의에서 받았다. 신체의 변형, 왜곡, 그리고 인체의 합성을 통해서 나의 정체성을 표현하고 싶다.

아름다운 인체의 이미지를 왜곡하는 일은 나에게 있어 굉장히 매력적인 소재이다. 특히 자연과, 인간의 몸은 많은 부분이 닿아있기 때문이다. 자연과 인간의 합성 또는 자연화 되는 인체는, 나에게 판타지 이면서도 나의 현실이기도 하다.

모든 영감은 몸의 상상력에서 나온 것이다.

"만약 팔 다리가 머리카락처럼 자라난다면?"

"치아가 아플때에는, 이빨 안에서 꽃이 자라나기 때문이 아닐까"

이처럼 육체의 욕심과 갈망은 끝이 없고 다 같은 신체를 가졌음에도 인간은 만족하지 못한채 살아간다. 이러한 욕심과 욕망 그리고 신체의 부족함이 내 창작에 있어 주 영감의 원천이다.

이번 작품에서는 시간이라는 개념에 대해 더 생각하고 , 이 아이디어를 담고 싶었다. 시간이야말로 현실을 자각할 수 있는 중요한 요소이기 때문이다.

시간이 흘러서 인체나 자연이 자연스럽게 변하고 퇴화되고 남겨지는것 (인체의 뼈, 시든 꽃들)그리고 , 내가 창조한 변화된 인체 (긴 팔)을 한 공간에 같이 전시 함으로써, 현실과 초 현실의 사이를 만들고 싶었다.

현실의 마지막 장면과 초 현실의 마지막 장면을 생각하게 되었고, 초 현실적 의 마지막 장면은 꿈의 마지막 장면이라고 생각했다. 꿈에서 깨어나기 직전, 무의식세계와 의식세계의 간극, 꿈 속에서 현실로 돌아오기 지전의 그 찰나야말로 현실과 초 현실의 사이 또는 초 현실에서 현실으로 돌아오는 순간이 아닐까 생각한다.
